November 1999 saw the historical change for the Malta Canine Society. November 1999 saw the split of the Society from the Malta Kennel Club, and the affiliation of the Malta Canine Society with the Maltese National Canine Federation. The November show was the first event being held under the auspices of the Federation. Despite the threat sent by means of a circular by the Malta Kennel Club to the members, that members participating in the Society's shows will be suspended, this show saw a record entry with all members participating. Eventually, not a single member was suspended by the MKC as this would have left their club with no active members at all. Since the Federation was still in the process of obtaining recognition from the Kennel Club (U.K), the Society had to invite a judge from the United States to avoid the possibility of the MKC blocking the judge from U.K. Mrs.Sophia Kaluzniaki was the judge of the first show held under the Federation's auspices. The show was held at the Trade Fair Grounds in Naxxar.
